Baseball

Baseball in Japan is a phenomenon, which may come as a surprise to some of us in the West who associate baseball with the USA.

The first professional baseball team was founded in Japan in 1934 and baseball has only grown in popularity since that time. There are now two major leagues in Japan, the Central League and the Pacific League. The season starts in late March or early April and ends in October. At the end of the season, the champions from each league play each other in the Climax Series.

Even if you’re not a fan of the sport, it’s worth watching a game to soak up the incredible atmosphere of a baseball stadium. Spectators sing songs for each player, let off balloons and have special 7th inning dance moves. When a player hits a home run, the atmosphere is electric – it’s impossible not to get swept away with the rest of the crowd!
