Park Hyatt Tokyo

The film ‘Lost in Translation’ was filmed at the Park Hyatt and this is the most internationally famous hotel in Japan. Located in Shinjuku, a modern and bustling area which is also one of the main transport hubs for the whole of Tokyo.

The city views from all windows are incredible and on a day with good visibility you can just about see Mt Fuji in the distance. We were impressed by the swimming pool in the ‘Club on the Park’ fitness centre. The views match the environment to create a sense of space and relaxation.

A variety of activities are available at the Park Hyatt, from fitness programmes, gentle relaxation options in the spa to bicycle hire to see the city from a different perspective. The ‘New York Grill’ offers great views of Tokyo and has an open kitchen layout so you can admire the chefs at work. The other restaurants and bars also offer delicious food and cocktails made with care and attention to detail. The New York Bar has a suitably jazzy atmosphere and offers an ‘Unplugged’ live Jazz event every Sunday evening featuring local artists.

The guestrooms are generously sized for Japan and all offer great views, comfortable beds and deep baths with separate showers. The amenities provide all the necessary comforts to make your stay enjoyable and there is a 24- hour concierge should you need anything.

The Park Hyatt has a slightly unusual layout, as the front desk is on the 49th floor requiring a lift from the arrival lobby on the ground floor and there are a number of different ‘top floors’ in different sections within the tower requiring different lifts to get to them. A good sense of direction would not go amiss when navigating your hotel, but the staff are incredibly helpful, speak good English and are very professional, so you won’t worry about getting lost.
