Harajuku

Harajuku is a stunning example of how the traditional and the modern coexist in Tokyo. A short walk from Harajuku Station leads to a massive torii, welcoming visitors to the forested compound of Meiji Jingu Shrine, which is a popular site for Japanese Shinto weddings on weekends. Head only a few minutes’ walk in the opposite direction to find the famously-crowded Takeshita Dōri. A narrow street lined with shops catering mainly to Japanese street fashion styles such as visual-kei and gothic lolita, it’s a great place to find some unique souvenirs as well as admire the fashion sense of the shoppers who visit.
Harajuku is also home to Yoyogi Park. Famous for its cherry blossoms in the spring, there are occasionally music or art festivals on the weekend as well as flea markets on most Sundays.
