Kintsugi Experience

Kintsugi or “join with gold” is on the surface simply the art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer and gold dust. However, there is a philosophy lying at the heart of this craft. In particular the philosophy of wabi-sabi, the appreciation of the impermanent and imperfect things, is deeply embodied in the art of kintsugi. Taking day to day ceramics which have been shattered or chipped beyond the point of use, and elevating them into pieces of art is the epitome of an act of wabi-sabi.
