Fujioto Ryokan

Fujioto is, hands down, our favourite place to stay in the Kiso Valley. Conveniently located on the main road in historic Tsumago, this charming, family run ryokan provides friendly service and delicious traditional meals.

As with all accommodation in the area, this is traditional Japanese style; rooms are spare and simple but the ancient wooden building and the private garden are delightful. None of the rooms are en-suite, but the traditional wooden baths can be used privately and there’s no doubt that a stay at Fujioto provides the true ‘real Japan’ experience!

Our tip to really make the most of a stay here: after dinner, while dressed in your yukata, slip on some of the wooden geta clogs you’ll find in the entrance and go off for a wander along Tsumago’s lantern lit main street – you’ll truly feel transported back into the past!
