Skiing in Hokkaido
Category: Winter Sports Tags: Hokkaido, skiing, snow, snowboarding
Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost major island, has both climate and mountains to rival Canada’s more famous ski slopes. Nestled in the very center of Hokkaido, the town of Furano is surrounded by mountains and has a six-month season lasting from late November to early May. Long time host to ski and snowboard world cups, Furano is renowned for long, well groomed runs as well as perfect powder, with slopes for all abilities.
The hugely popular resort of Niseko is the largest of Hokkaido’s ski areas, with three adjoining resorts sharing some of the best powder snow in the world. As well as skiing and snowboarding, Niseko has spectacular views – of the Sea of Japan as well as the impressively conical volcanic Mount Yotei – and some of the best accommodation available at any ski resort in Japan.
Into Japan Specialist Tours would be delighted to include some skiing or snowboarding in your winter vacation to Japan.
